Copying and pasting are the one of the fundamental actions that we perform on our computers everyday. However, even as our computers have evolved, this basic practice still functions in very much the same way as it did back when the first computers with clipboard capabilities came out. Why is that a problem? Well, the way copy and paste works right now, is that you can only copy one piece of text at time. If you need to copy multiple links off a webpage, and paste them in another window on your Mac, you’re sadly out of luck. However, you can thank the app developers that saw this problem and created a plethora of apps that can be used to manage multiple copied links.
Best Clipboard history app for Mavericks. Discussion in 'Mac Apps and Mac App Store' started by malch, Nov 18, 2013. The app is accessible with a quick swipe from the top of your screen, and, better yet, functions as a convenient place for storing quick notes, recent files, and clipboard information. It’s also a security conscious Mac app and won’t capture and save from apps like the Mac’s built-in Keychain, 1Password, and others that save important information. If you’ve never used a clipboard manager tool, iPaste is a good one to start with because it’s free, but the in-app purchase for the pro version adds a few more features. When you quit you clipboard manager and reopen it, or restart your Mac, you may want it to keep your history. All six apps let you do this, at least optionally. This app is best suitable for you if you want an app for taking notes as well as managing your clipboard. You can copy the stored items directly with a one-touch dedicated button. You can also change the color of an item, shift an item to notes or share it directly with other apps like Facebook, Whatsapp, Gmail etc. Copyclip (free). If you’re looking for a simple, lightweight clipboard manager, Copyclip is a decent option, despite being very similar to Flycut. Like Flycut, the app can only copy plain text (including data from tables), so no formatting such as hyperlinks will be maintained.
Best Clipboard App
Obviously, we scoured through the muddy waters of the internet, and tried out every free clipboard manager app under the sun. After hours of research, and a lot of testing, we can finally present 5 free clipboard managers for Mac:
1. Jumpcut
Jumpcut is an open source clipboard manager app. The features that Jumpcut offers are exactly what one would expect from a basic “get it done” implementation of a clipboard manager app. Jumpcut can remember up to100 copies, which really should be enough for any normal user. The app opens up as a menu bar application and can be activated using a customisable hotkey combination. As one might expect, pressing the hotkey combination makes a small window pop up, with the contents of the last copy you made; the copied contents can be scrolled through by using the arrow keys, and letting go of the hotkey results in the displayed result being automatically pasted at the position of your cursor.
The menu bar icon also gives a quick view of upto 40 of the latest copies made by the user, which can come in very handy for quickly copying an older result, without having to navigate through all of the newer results in the pop up window.
If there is one feature that I wish Jumpcut had, it is the ability to copy and paste images. That is probably the only issue that I faced with the app.

2. ClipMenu
ClipMenu is a clipboard manager that offers a lot more features than Jumpcut or Flycut and the features are highly useful as well. For starters, ClipMenu can remember any number of items that you want it to. This setting can be adjusted in the preferences for ClipMenu. It also automatically organises copied items into folders for what I’m sure the developers meant to be easy “maintainability” of copied contents, but it ends up hindering productivity, rather than increasing it.
ClipMenu also supports additional file formats, which Jumpcut and Flycut don’t. Using ClipMenu, you can copy text data, PDFs, RTF files and more. It also supports Images. When I first read that feature, I was sold, and I tried it out, only to be completely disappointed, when I found out that the app only supports TIFF and PICT formats. PICTformat! It does not support any of the standard formats that normal people use, not JPEGs, PNGs, not even BMPs. I mean, if you are going to start supporting formats that are barely used, if at all, why not atleast support BMP files?
Very weird image format choices notwithstanding, ClipMenu is a good app, and I would highly recommend it to you, unless you want to use it to manage copied images as well.
ClipMenu also has support for custom text snippets that you can use to fill up repetitive data wherever you want to. You can create custom snippets in the preferences for ClipMenu, and they can be used directly in any app that you want to use them in.

3. Flycut
When I first launched Flycut, I was confused, because it looked exactly like Jumpcut. The UI, the preference pane (almost), and even the pop-up window looks exactly the same as Jumpcut’s. However, Flycut comes with its own improvements over Jumpcut’s offerings. While it too can only hold up to 100 copies, and can only display up to 40 of the latest copies made by the user, it does add additional features to the app.
Flycut has the option to automatically remove duplicate copies. This is extremely useful as it ensures that you don’t end up with multiple copies of the same data, especially if you copy a lot of stuff in one go, to paste it later.
Flycut also has the option to adjust the height of the pop up window that opens up when you use the hotkey command to go through all the content you have copied. The scrolling feature remains the same, and you can scroll through all the copies you have made using the arrow keys on your keyboard. Letting go of the hotkeys produces the same result as in Jumpcut, by automatically pasting the displayed result at the position of your cursor.
Unfortunately, Flycut doesn’t support copying images either. However, for every other purpose, Flycut is an amazing clipboard manager.

4. CopyClip
The feature sets for these apps have started to get increasingly similar, however, I have not included any app that did not offer at least one different feature than the rest of the apps. CopyClip is no different. While it offers features such as the ability to remember a practically infinite number of copied data, it also has the unique ability that allows users to set exceptions on a per app basis. This means that the app will not remember copied data from apps that have been blacklisted. This feature is exceptionally useful if you use password managers and tend to copy and paste your passwords often; something I would never recommend anyone to do, especially on a Mac, which has a perfectly well built, and versatile Keychain Access app that does the job for you.

5. 1Clipboard
1Clipboard is an app that immediately caught my attention. Not because of some really great features (it does have some), but because it looks a lot better than any of the other clipboard managers that I tried out. Sure, they got the job done, and they have the features that someone might need in a clipboard manager. However, I have repeatedly stressed the importance of good UI/UX to anyone who would listen.
Now, 1Clipboard is nowhere near a “good UI/UX” standard, but it’s simply much better than the other apps on this list. It also boasts of some good features. The app uses Google Drive to sync the user’s clipboard across devices. When I say across devices, I don’t mean it in the way Apple’s continuity and handoff works (only with Apple devices), I mean that 1Clipboard syncs your clipboard content between Windows and Mac computers, provided that it is installed on both of the systems, obviously.
The app only has one major flaw, admittedly in a rather important aspect of its functionality. The procedure to paste a copied item from 1Clipboard, is simply too much of a hassle, as compared to other apps, and the way they work. While apps such as Jumpcut and Flycut automatically paste the content being displayed inside the pop up window, 1Clipboard decides to annoy the user a little, and requires the user to either click on, or press the corresponding number key for an item from the 1Clipboard manager, and then press “Command + V” to paste the content.

Windows 10 recently introduced a native clipboard manager, which you can activate by going to Settings > System > Clipboard, and then trigger it by pressing Win + V. However, this infamous clipboard manager is quite inconsistent and misses out on a lot of useful features. For instance, I have also countered a few issues while copying images from the clipboard onto Photoshop and it only supports image file up to 1 MB.
Earlier this week we talked about the best clipboard manager for Android and macOS. And some of you asked for the Windows version. So, if you are looking to improve the clipboard efficiency on Windows and in turn increase your productivity then here are some of the best third-party clipboard managers for Windows.

The only issue with 1clipboard is, it’s still in the early beta stage, so you might find it unstable sometimes. Although it our testing, it worked fine. Overall if you are looking for a free clipboard manager that sync between Mac and Windows, 1clipboard is for you.

3. ClipClip
ClipClip is yet another good clipboard manager that is lightweight and completely free. What differentiates ClipClip from Ditto is its traditional design and the ability to edit and modify clips as needed. It just looks like any other Windows application. All your clips appear right in the main window. When you want to use the clip, simply right-click on it and select the Use Clip option. To edit a clip, double-click on it and modify the clip as needed. Some of the best features of ClipClip include but not limited to the ability to change clip type, ability to save clips in text format, custom groups, built-in translator to translate clips between different languages, customizable hotkeys, etc.
As good as the application is, as of writing this, it is in public beta stage. So, expect some bugs, though I haven’t experienced any in my usage.

What Is A Good Clipboard App For Macbook
Clipboard Master is much more than a simple clipboard manager. Apart from giving you sufficient options to better manage all your clips, it can also act as a quick screenshot tool, password safe, and flexikeys. In case you are wondering, flexikeys feature can intelligently auto-complete directory names and pre-defined text templates, much like a text expander application. Just the like above clipboard managers, Clipboard Master allows you to manage your clips in different groups.
Other than that, Clipboard Master has all the required options like customizable keyboard shortcuts, quick paste, support for global context menu, powerful search and filtering feature, clip format converter, a quick preview for images, etc.
As good as it is, the user interface of Clipboard Master is not the best and as a result, there is a good amount of learning curve to get used to Clipboard Master.
Price: Free.
5. ClipboardFusion
ClipboardFusion is one of the most advanced clipboard managers for Windows. Along with the regular clipboard manager features like support for text formatting, support for multiple file formats, ability to edit clips, previews, etc., it also has some of the best features like the ability to create custom macros and triggers. The macros and triggers give you a nuanced control and you can do almost anything you want with ClipboardFusion.
Add to that, the user interface of ClipboardFusion is traditional and there is no learning curve unless you want to make use of the macros feature. Macros are created using c# language. Moreover, ClipabordFusion is also available on other platforms like Android, iOS, macOS, Linux, Chrome browser, etc. If you want to, you can sync your clips between devices using the Sync feature.
All in all, if you are looking for a powerful and cross-platform clipboard manager that lets you create your own functions using macros and triggers then try ClipboardFusion.

ClipMate is yet another powerful clipboard manager that has a lot of interesting features, same as ClipboardFusion. For instance, you can create your own macros. If need be, you can even encrypt your clips so that only you can access the data. Since you can create custom groups, you can manage clips accordingly. Unlike in other apps, when you delete a clip from ClipMate, it is moved to its own Trash Can rather than deleting it completely. This feature is very useful when you accidentally delete a clip. Of course, ClipMate also has a powerful search feature that lets you find the clip you are looking for using various filters like captured after, has format, has text, creator, URL, member of collection, etc.
Features of ClipMate include groups, profiles, edit clips, combine clips, convert clips, export and import clips in XML format, etc. As good and powerful as it is, the user interface is straight from the 90s. It can take some time to get used to it. Other than that, if you are looking for a powerful clipboard manager and don’t mind dated user interface then you should give ClipMate a try.

It just captures all the text clips and lists them accordingly. When you want to make use of a clip, select it and press the assigned keyboard shortcut or select “Edit > Copy clip.” Unfortunately, Clipboard Magic has no support for rich text, image, or other formats. As I said before, it is a very basic application. However, it does let you edit clips, load clips, and save clips when needed.
So, if you are looking for a simple app to keep track of all your clipboard clipping and don’t mind lack of features then Clipboard Magic is for you.
Price: Free.

Though that comes with a price tag of $15 per user.
Finally, if you are someone who likes to install one app that does everything, that Clipboard master is a better choice. The free version comes with screenshot capture and text expander option along with clipboard manager. But on the flip side, it doesn’t have the best UI out there.
